Image masking has many uses. The most basic uses of background removal can be found in this article. For soft edges of an images–like human hair, furry clothes, dolls–image masking is used with clipping path to remove the background. To achieve hard edges, clipping path is generally used; for hairy or soft edges, masking is used. When image details are too hard to capture with just clipping path techniques, Image masking is used to isolate the object from the background.
This is another way we can use to make the object look like it’s on top of a colored background. We separate the color of the product from the background with natural looking soft edges. The accuracy of this method depends on two things: how large our sketching balloon is and how hard we push.

Fur & Hair Masking
When hair and fur can’t be adjusted enough with clipping, we use the masking technique. The fuzziness of the hair and fur is eliminated and the soft edge is made to be sharp. Exposure problems are resolved by touching on color, contrast, and brightness to bring out the natural appearance of the image.
Object Masking
In Object masking, the unsuitable part of an image is selected with the quick selection tool and then removed by applying masking using the layer mask. Object masking is very much useful for removing deformations of images.
Color Masking
To avoid the hollow line, cutting an image just across the edge or outline instead of 1 or 2 pixels inside is color mask. The designers later apply various effects like color & exposure correction, retouching, etc.
